As a member of the 2SLGBTQIAS+ community, Rob has personally invested in local initiatives and change as a founding member of North Bay Pride. He currently serves as a regional representative and treasurer for OPSEU’s Rainbow Alliance Arc-en-Ciel, and he is the Vice President for the Ontario Federation of Labour (Solidarity and Pride).
As a local vice president, past PHRC representative, and past area council chair, Rob is aware of the important role that public services play in our communities and the importance of a strong labour voice to advocate for changes.
Rob is committed and actively involved in union activities as a union leader in the Ontario Public Service Employee’s Union (OPSEU/SEFPO) where he represents workers in all roles within the post-secondary workforce as Vice-Chair for OPSEU/SEFPO’s University Sector.
I believe in the power of organizing and planning not just for the issues in front of us, but diving deep into the root causes, and making plans to support change that will reverse the downward trends.
Planning for our future is more than just the current election cycle.
Our leadership must always be open to this and engaging with members and community about establishing how to build confidence and be supportive of each other at its core.
Over the last two years (2022+), I've had the opportunity to collaborate with grassroots leaders from around the world on International Conferences focussing on how Unions and our members have a lasting impact on Societal Change and Human Rights. Working collaboratively with these people, we have been able to get an Independant Expert position renewed at the United Nations, successfully organized a Human Rights Conference with Toronto Pride, and planned/moderated a Conference in the Caribbean themed "Stronger Together".
Using the Jane McAlevy Organizng for Power techniques, I'm beyond proud of the members of my home Local, OPSEU/SEFPO 608.
This past year, through an incredibly tough round of local bargaining, we together were able to stand up for ourselves and demand RESPECT in the workplace. We successfully fought for Collective Agreement changes that make a difference for our members.
Following this, the local established Equity Officers in the local, in accordance with Social Mapping recommendations and is actively working on ensuring Equity is a part of the Local's decision making, and succession planning and development.
In my downtime, you can find me hanging out with friends playing Cooperative Video games, and building an online community or just gathering and playing some Dungeons and Dragons or Red Dragon Inn.
Mister Maples is my little buddy, I've had the privilege of being his retirement home and caretaker for the last 4 years.
You can find his Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/mister.maples/?hl=en
I also have a 7 year old German Shepherd, Clio. While she's not a huge fan of other animals, she and Mister Maples are best buds. Together they keep me on my toes at home.
